How It Works
Through our partnership with leading computer manufacturers, our Computrace® Agent was probably embedded in the firmware of your computer when it came off the production line. Or you can easily install it yourself.
The Agent in the firmware is incredibly persistent and allows your computer to maintain a connection with our Monitoring Centre, even if the hard drive is completely reformatted or replaced.
Once the Agent is activated – your computer (and everything on it) is protected.
Stolen Computer
In the event of theft, contact us. The next time your laptop connects to the internet, our Theft Recovery Team will forensically mine your computer using a variety of procedures including key captures, registry scanning, file scanning, geolocation, and other investigative techniques to determine who has your computer.

Most importantly, we will use our technology to pinpoint the physical location of your stolen computer and work closely with local police agencies to recover your property.

As soon as your laptop connects to the internet, it secretly contacts our monitoring centre.
Locate
Our Theft Recovery Team pinpoints the location of your laptop using the IP address and our geolocation tracking technology.
Recover
We work closely with local police agencies to obtain a warrant and recover your stolen laptop.

Remotely Delete Your
Private Data
You can protect your privacy by remotely deleting all files from your computer, including files and applications containing personal photos, internet bookmarks, browser cookies, financial information, and stored passwords. Everything an identity thief would need to steal your identity.
If your computer is stolen, you can choose from three different data delete options:
- Identity Protection: Web browser related files including history, cache, cookies, form data, search data, and saved passwords
- Identity Protection & Data Protection: Above, as well as all files and folders containing user data – typically Documents & Settings folders)
- Identity Protection, Data Protection & System Protection: Deletes all files and folders except for those files required by the operating system
